Tales of High Adventure: Metagaming and why it's not all bad

Image
Metagaming is the perceived scourge of modern roleplaying, right up there with other things that do not exist but we think they do because we have names for them, like "balance" or "canon".  I have just one thing to say, although it may take quite a few words to say it. But it basically boils down to: there are several kinds of metagaming and not all are bad, although some definitely are. Oh and if you are a Game Master and don't like metagaming, there are ways for you to curtail it, and one of the best ways to do it is so meta. Ok, so that's definitely more than one thing I have to say, but it all falls under one label: Learn to roll with metagaming. This is a part of a bigger (meta?) framework which can be summarized as: learn your role as a Game Master. Know what you bring to the group and remember that you are a part of a group and that acting with that knowledge in mind will bring the best out of the players which will in return enrich your game. A man asked, and a dragonborn was born! The Dragonborn race for DCC.

Image
I had some hours and some herbs to kill, so when a need for DCC Dragonborn was expressed in the Facebook DCC RPG group, I was like "that's a niche that needs filling", so I filled it with some words. Take a deep breath.  Dragonborn You are a dragonborn , descendant of proud Dragons , who once ruled the world. Standing at 7 to 8 feet tall, your hulking size, scale -like skin and draconic visage give away your true nature, which is mostly determined by your ancestry - as is your one proof to the doubtful that you are indeed the progeny of the mightiest beasts there ever were: your breath weapon. Hit points : A  Dragonborn gains 1d1 2 hit points at each level. Weapon training : Dragonborn love a scuffle, and many are quite proficient hunters. They prefer longspears for hunting but usually disdain the use of ranged weapons and firearms, which they consider barbaric , except for their breath weapons, naturally . Dragonborn are considered trained in the followin...

Greetings! Here's a duck. It's for Dungeon Crawl Classics.

Image
A Duck Soldier class for the Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG, created in honor of a farmer's duck that not only survived but also helped defeat the final enemy in the funnel adventure, before the characters ascended to mighty Level 1 heroes (the funnel was Nebin Pendlebrook's Perilous Pantry , and I cannot recommend the adventure enough, go out and buy it right now)! Also inspired by the wonderful Suikoden  series of JRPGs, which I have spent many a sativa-fueled night playing with my very friend who played the farmer - and the duck - in the funnel. You go, Sgt. Joe! Duck Clan Soldier You are a progeny of the legendary Duck Clan of humanoid waterfowl, which also includes the sorcerous Swan Clan and the barbaric and belligerent Geese Clan. The Duck Clan soldiers are stalwart defenders, excellent guards and shrewd tacticians and are among most renowned and respected of mercenaries. Their sonorous quacks have been known to rally an entire army in disarray and instill both courage in...
