A man asked, and a dragonborn was born! The Dragonborn race for DCC.

I had some hours and some herbs to kill, so when a need for DCC Dragonborn was expressed in the Facebook DCC RPG group, I was like "that's a niche that needs filling", so I filled it with some words. Take a deep breath.

Dragonborn

You are a dragonborn, descendant of proud Dragons, who once ruled the world. Standing at 7 to 8 feet tall, your hulking size, scale-like skin and draconic visage give away your true nature, which is mostly determined by your ancestry - as is your one proof to the doubtful that you are indeed the progeny of the mightiest beasts there ever were: your breath weapon.

Hit points: A Dragonborn gains 1d12 hit points at each level.

Weapon training: Dragonborn love a scuffle, and many are quite proficient hunters. They prefer longspears for hunting but usually disdain the use of ranged weapons and firearms, which they consider barbaric, except for their breath weapons, naturally. Dragonborn are considered trained in the following: club, spear, axe, great axe, greatclub, maul, morningstar, halberd, javelin, two-handed sword, long sword, short sword, sling. Dragonborn wear only light armor, relying on their natural armor for protection - and appearance.

Alignment: Dragonborn can be of any alignment, but are usually of the alignment their draconic ancestor was.

Bad Breath: Dragonborn possess a breath weapon, similar to the ones their mighty ancestors use to level cities and set entire realms ablaze. However, using their breath weapon takes a high toll on the Dragonborn: it deals damage equal to the amount of Hit Points the dragonborn sacrifices. The type of breath weapon is determined by the Dragonborn's draconic ancestry, but is either a 30 feet line, requiring a Reflex saving throw, or a 15 feet cone, requiring a Fortitude saving throw. The DC is equal to 10 + Dragonborn level.

Scale Up: A dragonborn's skin hardens as they get older. Dragonborn add their class level to armor class, in addition to any Agility bonus and any armor or shield used.

Epistemologica Draconis: Dragonborn speak Draconic, which is the root language of all other languages. They understand all other languages and can learn to speak them quickly, requiring d6 - Int bonus days to learn a new language, regardless of their Intelligence score.

Draconic is also the language used in magical writings. Thus, Dragonborn with high Intelligence bonus, who can speak of abstract concepts and spin eloquent yarns of things that could be, which is the basis of spelling or spellcasting, can use magic. A dragonborn can learn one wizard or cleric spell per point of Intelligence bonus, of a level that is equal or lesser then their character level. Dragonborn cast these spells as wizards of corresponding level (adding their Intelligence bonus and level to their roll) but the time it takes to cast any spell is prolonged to 1 round, as the Dragonborn hisses and roars ancient words of power and creation. Dragonborn do not have patrons or access to invoke patron or patron bond since their magic comes from the language of the demiurges, and they are much too proud to serve the lesser beings who have perverted this ancient power to their own ends.

Luck: Dragonborn add their Luck bonus to either their spellcasting rolls or their melee attack rolls, choosing upon creation.

Action dice: A Dragonborn’s action dice can be used either for attacks (including their breath weapon) or spellcasting.
